Our Mission

No family should face a hospital stay alone.

The Fisher House Foundation operates a network of comfort homes where military and veteran families can stay at no cost while a loved one receives medical care. The Alaska Fisher House extends that mission locally — serving families who travel from every corner of our state for treatment in the Anchorage area.

Each Fisher House is designed to feel like home. Families share a warm, welcoming space where they can rest, cook a familiar meal, connect with others who understand, and focus on what matters most: being together.

The Fisher House Foundation has earned an “A+” rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy and is consistently ranked among the nation’s most trusted military and veteran charities. Learn more at fisherhouse.org.

In Their Words

What families say about Fisher House.

“There’s not one moment in Fisher House that hasn’t been extraordinary. I’ve been thinking about what it means to us and the people here — it’s a beacon of hope.”

— Kate Davis

“In your darkest hours, when you think you have nowhere to turn, Fisher House offers a glimmer of hope. It was like a hand reaching down and pulling you up. You knew it was going to be okay.”

— Vickie Carter, mother of an Air Force airman who lost her leg

“I’ve seen a lot of charities do a lot of different things for the military, but only Fisher House has focus on the entire family as a unit. We were all able to be together throughout my healing process.”

— Dale Beatty

“Volunteering for Fisher House feeds my heart. I feel like I am the one being given a gift.”

— Nick Mavrick, volunteer

“Because a family’s love is good medicine.”

Who We Are

Friends of Alaska Fisher House

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2011, run by Alaskans, for the families who stay here. Every donation is used in direct support of our guests.

Everyday essentials

We keep the pantry, laundry room, and kitchen stocked — from coffee and frozen meals to soap and paper goods — so families can settle in the moment they arrive.

Care for the home

Through donations and community partnerships, we help maintain the house and enhance the experience for every family who walks through the door.

Support for families

Volunteer-cooked dinners, holiday touches, and small comforts that remind families they’re not going through this alone — Alaska is behind them.

Help keep the porch light on for Alaska’s military families.

Whether through a financial contribution, volunteering, purchasing needed household items, or helping spread the word, your support helps ensure military and veteran families have a place to call home while a loved one receives medical care.
